Astilbe - Lollypop
The Astilbe ‘Lollypop’, Astilbe japonica 'Lollypop' (PP11,966), is a colorful feathery flower with hot pink blooms, dark purple stems and dark green shiny foliage. Lollypop's beautiful flowers contrast wonderfully with the dark green foliage. Astilbe ‘Lollypop’ blooms in early summer. Astilbes are grown most successfully in rich soil and under partial sun. The biggest key to successful growth of your Astilbes is water. . . . they require a lot of water. The soil must remain moist. If the soil drys out the plant will falter quickly, especially in the sun. Wait to cut the foilage back until spring as that will protect the plant during the winter. Fertilize Astilbes in late spring before the flowers emerge. Astilbes can be used as cut flowers, perennial borders or shade gardens with Hosta’s and Ferns. ... details
Spiderwort - Shimmer Mixed The Spiderwort Shimmer Mixed, 'Tradescantia andersoniana', has compact and upright green foliage with large pink, lilac, blue, rose, mauve and occasional white flowers. The flowers open for one day but new blooms appear from June to October. With a plant height of 30” and a spread of 24-36”, it is one that should not be missed. The contrast of the flower color and foliage make it a definite eye catcher. Deadhead after the first flowering to prolong its blooming time. Tradescantia ‘Shimmer Mixed’ should be planted in a sunny area, but they will tolerate some morning shade, with well-drained soil. It will tolerate damp soil but should not be over watered. ‘Shimmer Mixed’ mixes beautifully with wild and naturalistic woodlands, in any perennial bed or as a border plant and attracts butterflies. Try ‘Shimmer Mixed’ with Geranium ‘Johnson’s Blue’ or Alchemilla ‘Lady’s Mantle’. PPAF.
