Yellow Flowering Currant, 'Ribes aureum', is an attractive shrub with fragrant yellow flowers in spring followed by black berries in late summer. Green summer foliage turns scarlet-red in the fall. Valued for its foliage and flowers, Yellow Flowering Currant has yellow flowers that are popular with hummingbirds. It has yellow berries that turn black as they ripen and are quite tasty. This xeriscape plant tolerates a range of light exposures and soil types and can be used on difficult sites, but make sure they have good drainage. These drought tolerant plants don't want wet feet. Rose of Sharon-Jeanne DArc The Jeanne D'Arc Rose of Sharon, Hibiscus syriacus Jeanne D'Arc, is an upright, deciduous shrub that is vigorous, erect, multi-stemmed shrub that typically grows 8-12' tall. This shrub may also be trained as a single trunk tree or espalier. Leaves are diamond-shaped, dark green, slightly palmate and toothed. 'Jeanne D'Arc' bears double white flowers from late summer until mid-fall. Long, early-summer to fall bloom period. This cultivar is a sterile triploid that produces very few if any seed pods. Larger flowers may be obtained by pruning back hard to 2-3 buds in early spring.
