Monkshood

The Monkshood, 'Aconitum napellus', is a wonderfully different perennial for your shade garden. Monkshood perform best in shade under trees or on the east or north side of a house. The flowers occur in clusters along tall spikes. Flowers are deep blue to blue and have 1 to 2 inch high hoods. Monkshood takes 2 to 3 years to bloom from seed. They bloom from late summer into early fall. Monkshood prefers shady locations. They will withstand sun, but they must be watered constantly. Monkshood requires soils that are high in organic matter and the soil must be moist, but not soggy. Plant in late fall or early spring. They are used for cut flowers and shade gardens. Cypress Vine The Cypress Vine Funny Valentine Blend, 'Tpomea guamoclit', has stunning feathery, fern-like foliage with masses of white, pink and red tubular flowers that flare into a five-pointed star. This vine is very fast growing and has a tropical-looking foliage. They do best in slightly alkaline to very acid soils. Plant in the spring, after the last average frost date or later into the spring when soil temperatures are warmer. The Funny Valentine Blends are used for pots, baskets, climbing up fences, trellises and as a ground over. Most parts of this plants are poisonous.
