Pansy - Swiss Giant Mix
The Pansy Swiss Giant Blend, 'Viola wittrockiania', produces large multi-colored flowers that you won't be able to get enough of, and you can eat them too! Technically a perennial, grown as an annual pansy, will overwinter in climates as cold as zone 4. Swiss Giant Blend has 3 inch flowers of mixed colors including blue, purple, yellow, apricot, orange, mahogany, red, white, and biclolors. Pansies bloom best during cool weather, this means spring in cool climates, and fall and winter in warm climates. Swiss Giant prefers full sun but they tolerate some light shade. Plant them in normal garden soils and fertilize lightly. They need to be well watered but not soggy. Plant in early spring, 2 to 4 weeks before last frost or in mid summer for fall bloom. In warm climates plant in late summer or early fall. The Pansy works well in locations where late fall and early spring color would be appropriate. ... more info
Aster - Tall Matsumoto The Aster Tall Matsumoto, 'Callistephus chinensis', is a florist quality cut flower variety with tall, strong stems and an unusual bi-color flower with a yellow center. This Aster has a very long vase life. It will provide an "end-of-the-season pick-me-up" with its dazzling, radiant, medium sized flowers. The 2 inch wide flowers have white petals tipped bright pink with contrasting yellow centers. The Tall Matsumoto blooms from mid to late summer up to the first hard fall frost. The Aster Milady prefers rich, deep, light soil. Add compost to improve marginal soil quality. The plants require average water and they do not like to dry out. Pinch off faded flowers to encourage new blooms. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date.
