Tomato - Ace

The Tomato Ace, 'Lycopersicon lycopersicum', is an old favorite with excellent tomato flavor and it is great for canning. The 5 to 6 inch in diameter Ace tomato weighs about 7 to 8 ounces which is a decent sized tomato. Yields are exceptional for such a large tomato. Ace is a low acid tomato for those who prefer such. Ace is an intermediate tomato which means they continue to grow indefinitely until frost. Tomatoes are generally started inside. They may also be seeded outside after the last average frost date. In warm winter/hot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Prune the intermediate tomatoes in order to keep a single stem. ... more

Sweet Pea - Perfume Delight The Sweet Pea Perfume Delight, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is a mixture of several colors of very fragrant sweet peas. The fragrance of these flowers will take you to times past. The flowers are slightly smaller, 3/4 to 1 inch flowers, than other annual sweet peas, but they are more heat resistant. They will bloom about 1 week longer than other sweet peas. The flower colors are purple, red, rose, white, pink, blue, scarlet, cream, and salmon. A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Perfume Delight is very early planting. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. They are used for cut flowers and for covering fences and walls if given the proper support.
